A native of Greensboro, Dr. Howard McFarland graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Fraternity, and graduated with the Doctor of Optometry degree in 1983. His clinical externships were at the Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Riverdale Eye Clinic, Riverdale, Georgia; and the VA Medical Center, Lake City, Florida.
Dr. McFarland returned to Greensboro to begin the practice of Optometry in the fall of 1983, specializing in family eye care and contact lenses. He is a 30-year member of the American Optometric Association as well as a member of the North Carolina State Optometric Society. He is also a member of the Triad Optometric Association where he is a past president.
